This morning I went onto Google, searching for a particular DVD box set as a Christmas gift for my husband. Since the potential exists for him to read this, I'll not divulge the name.

 

Google came up with a company called HotDVDCollections.com, & I was ecstatic! At last I'd found what I was looking for! & then this little red flag shot up.

 

So, despite my first flush of ecstacy, & realizing Google will not protect me from unscrupulous vendors, I took a deep breath & did another Google search–this time for reviews of HotDVDCollection.com. The first result was for www.sitejabber.com/reviews/www.hotdvdcollection.com

While a few people said their stuff was as advertised, most said the dvd's were of poor quality & clearly pirated, not to mention the company was in China & shipping took forever.

 

Needless to say, I won't be purchasing from that particular company. I guess I'll just have to wait till it officially becomes available in the US, hopefully in time for his birthday. Disappointing, yes–but it would've even been more so had I bought the dvd only to have it not arrive in time for Christmas, &/or to have it arrive in unplayable condition. Then there's always the possibility–though I'm not saying at all it happens with this company–is that unscrupulous merchants can take your money &/or your financial information, while you get zilch.

 

The moral of the story, I guess, is when buying from an unknown retailor, let skepticism rule the day. Even if you think you've found that really special something, stop, do your homework, &, if still in doubt, run the other way.
