First Guitar Lesson
I had my first guitar lesson with Jeff Thomas today. My camera glasses didn't work, & I was afraid that technologically, it was gonna get a little rocky because of that. My netbook webcam worked ok, though, & we started out with "Michael Row the Boat Ashore"–not that I got that far, or even close. I feel sorry for that young man having to put up with such a newbie as myself, but he was very cool about it all. It was truly embarrassing being so inept in front of someone who's probably younger than my daughter, especially when I'm used to being the authoritative computer person, but I'll need to get used to it, cuz I'm not learning this any too fast!
He definitively clarified for me some concepts such as the meaning of "first position" & "finger per fret". I thought finger placement had to do with the string–but, no–it's the fret. So that was a real eye-opener, even if the eyes don't really work. I truly like him, so I'm gonna practice a lot so he won't think I'm sluffin & give up on me.
Anyone interested in learning guitar should go to:
He's got a live chat feature on his site, &, if he's online, he can engage you in conversation & answer questions you might have. He's kind enough to donate time to blind folks, so I'm trying to get him some exposure in return, if I can. You will need Skype, & you will need a webcam for video purposes, but many portable computers have them built in, &, if not, they're available pretty cheaply now. Go check him out, & I'll be posting about my progress from time to time for those who might be interested.
